2008 SynGas Cardboard Boat Race

Teams will design and construct a cardboard boat to participate in a speed challenge in the pool at DoubleTree at Warren Place.  Each Team will have three (3) days (Monday, April 14 @ 8:00 a.m. to Wednesday, April 16, 5:00 p.m.) to construct their boat out of materials furnished by the SynGas Committee.  In the race, boats will be required to be human powered, and will cover the length of the pool, turn around, and come back to the beginning spot.

Start getting your teams together now.  The only rule for forming teams is that there must be an equal number of Producers & Suppliers.  Boats must be made entirely of the furnished materials (corrugated cardboard and propelled by paddles or oars (furnished).   There is a wealth of information on the web about designing and building cardboard boats

Here’s a great opportunity to put your engineering, design, and building skills to work.  Think about who you want on your team and call them now before your competitor does.  You have lots of time to plan and be creative.  You will need to register your team members by emailing bettyhelm@cox.net, to insure that you will have an adequate amount of materials to construct your boat.  Rulers, tape measures, utility knives, pencils/pens, etc. will be available for your use, but you may want to bring any of these items to avoid waiting to use them.

The following materials will be provided and are the only materials allowed:

Sheets of corrugated cardboard, String/Paper Clips, Paint Brush, Carpenter’s Glue, Caulk/Silicone, Reinforced paper tape, Paint

Judging will be by the SynGas Committee members.
